LANCASTER CONTRA DANCE presents TRIPLE HEADER WITH TOM HINDS AND WILD WOMBATS OF THE CHESAPEAKE See Flier Attached

APRIL 18, 2020

3:30 – 5:30 PM : An Introduction to English Country Dancing. If you are unfamiliar with ECD, think Jane Austen without the costumes. Tom will lead figures to the lovely music of local musicians. This workshop is by donation. Bring a brown bag or visit one of the local restaurants for supper before the evening session. 6:15 PM: New Dancer’s Lesson 7:00 – 10:00 PM: An Evening of Contras and Squares. Our regular contra dance square dances. Feel free to bring a snack at the break. Our evening music will be provided by Wild Wombats of the Chesapeake, a versatile band from Baltimore, includes Carl Friedman on fiddle, Robin Wilson on flute, concertina, & sax, Ralph Barthine on guitar, and Janina O’Brien on keyboard, accordion, & whistle. Adults - $10.00 Students - $6.00 Children 15 and under are free.

Tom Hinds, from Charlottesville, VA, has been calling dances for 35 years. He has taught and called at many dance camps, including Pinewoods (MA), Augusta Heritage (WV), Lady of the Lake (ID), and Buffalo Gap (WV), as well as done tours of Denmark and the Sidmouth Folk Festival in England. As a choreographer, he has published 7 collections of his dances. Tom called for our first contra dance in April of 1995, and we’ve welcomed his return several times throughout the years.
